Community News update, Adelaide ! 2nd July 2025 South Australian Parliament, Adelaide In a heartfelt recognition of humanitarian efforts that transcend borders, Mr Shalinder Laroia, Founder of the Firozpur Foundation, Punjabi based NGO ,was formally felicitated at the South Australian Parliament House by the Hon. Michelle Lensink MLC. Mr Laroia was joined by Mr Kanwaldeep (KD) Singh, Trustee of MILAAP—a South Australian multicultural initiative that has played a key role in identifying and celebrating individuals making a lasting impact in the community. MILAAP was instrumental in bringing Mr Laroia’s inspiring work to light, helping connect his story to leaders and changemakers across Australia. Hon. Michelle Lensink praised Mr Laroia’s tireless work to support families living below the poverty line in India, describing the Firozpur Foundation as “a powerful example of grassroots action creating global impact.” As part of the recognition, Mr Laroia was presented with a memento of appreciation and received a guided tour of the Parliament House, including its rich architectural and legislative history. Speaking at the occasion, Mr Laroia said, “I am humbled by this honour and deeply touched by the warmth shown to me here. South Australia truly feels like a second home. Bobby Sherman, 1960s Teen Idol and Singer/Actor Dies at 81 Brigitte & Bobby Sherman Children's Foundation Bobby Sherman Fans Robert Cabot "Bobby" Sherman Jr., a former teen idol who rose to fame in the 1960s and later devoted his life to emergency services and humanitarian work, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2025, at his home in Encino, California. He was 81. His wife, Brigitte Poublon, announced the death Tuesday and family friend John Stamos posted her message on Instagram: “Bobby left this world holding my hand — just as he held up our life with love, courage, and unwavering grace.” Sherman revealed he had Stage 4 cancer earlier this year. “Even in his final days, he stayed strong for me. That’s who Bobby was — brave, gentle, and full of light,” Poublon wrote. Born on July 22, 1943, in Santa Monica, California, Sherman first gained national attention as a singer on the television variety show Shindig! and became a household name through his role as Jeremy Bolt on the ABC series Here Come the Brides (1968–1970). His pop music career flourished in the late 1960s and early 1970s with hits like “Little Woman,” “Julie, Do Ya Love Me,” “La La La (If I Had You),” and “Easy Come, Easy Go.” At the peak of his fame, Sherman received tens of thousands of fan letters each week and became a staple on magazine covers and TV variety shows. In a remarkable second act, Sherman stepped away from the spotlight in the late 1970s to pursue a career in public service. He became a certified EMT and later a training officer with the Los Angeles Police Department, where he taught CPR and first aid to thousands of officers. He served as a reserve deputy sheriff in San Bernardino County and was recognized for his service and commitment to emergency medical education. In 2011, Sherman co-founded the Brigitte & Bobby Sherman Children’s Foundation with his wife, Brigitte Poublon, focusing on providing education and healthcare to children in Ghana. The couple was deeply involved in charitable efforts throughout their later years. Sherman was previously married to Patti Carnel, with whom he had two sons, Christopher and Tyler. In 2010, he married Brigitte Poublon, who survives him, along with his sons and six grandchildren. Diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer earlier in 2025, Sherman remained gracious and reflective in his final months, continuing to read fan mail and express gratitude for the life he had lived. Tributes poured in from fans, former colleagues, and friends who remembered him not only as a pop culture icon but also as a selfless public servant and generous soul. Bobby Sherman’s legacy is one of enduring charm, heartfelt music, and genuine service to others. He will be remembered as a man who used his fame not for vanity, but as a platform for doing good.

Say ‘HI’ to our newest GCC ambassador, 5-year-old Hendrix! 🌟 Life took a dramatic turn for Hendrix and his mom, Jenna, when he was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia in February 2023. 💔 This brave little man started treatment immediately, and endured daily chemotherapy, regular hospital trips and countless appointments. Another big bump in the road came later that year when Hendrix was rushed to hospital on November 28th with severe diabetic ketoacidosis, just as he was due to transition to maintenance treatment. Two weeks later, on December 13th, Hendrix was officially diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. He started maintenance chemotherapy as planned, with an insulin pump to manage his diabetes, and completed five cycles of maintenance treatment before another setback… This January, as Hendrix was preparing to start round six of maintenance treatment, tests indicated an early relapse of his leukemia. 😭 Reintroduction chemotherapy didn’t have the impact his doctors hoped for, so they turned to cutting-edge CAR T-cell therapy. Modified T-cells were infused into his bloodstream on April 10. Despite holding so much promise, the CAR T treatment failed, leaving his family understandably devastated. His journey is now taking a new direction. Hendrix is being prepared for a bone marrow transplant, which is now his best chance of beating this terrible disease. Car owners will drive in support of children and families served by The Children’s Center and arrive with their trunks and frunks full of toys and other items!
