看看留言吧🌿 On this World Snake Day, I flipped through my old photos, reliving some of the most exciting encounters with wild snakes over the years. Each image brings back vivid memories—their life force, wild beauty, and mysterious allure come alive once more. Sadly, these remarkable creatures often go unnoticed or misunderstood, branded as symbols of danger and death. To me, the true essence of World Snake Day lies not just in spotlighting snakes, but in breaking down fears and myths, fostering appreciation for their diversity and beauty, and honouring all life. I hope you’ll join me in this view! Curious about what these snakes are? Check the comment below!

𝘼 𝙉𝙚𝙬 𝘿𝙖𝙬𝙣 𝙖𝙩 𝙄𝙣𝙠𝙬𝙚𝙣𝙠𝙬𝙚𝙯𝙞 🦏 Just under a year after four white rhinos were relocated from Limpopo to the Eastern Cape, new life has arrived at Inkwenkwezi Private Game Reserve! Dabchick Wildlife Reserve Rewilding Africa 💡On 22 April 2025, 8-year-old Rhedi — one of the translocated heifers — gave birth to a healthy calf. The birth is a powerful symbol of hope, strength, and resilience for rhino conservation in the region. 📸 Master Fine Art Photographer Marlene Neumann was invited to photograph the young calf, capturing this milestone in her signature soulful style. “𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘢 𝘳𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘰 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘦. Bears learn behaviors early in life. When young bears discover food around homes and communities, they often return—and that can lead to their destruction. Prevent human-bear conflict by securing garbage and other attractants. A fed bear is often a dead bear. Help keep Alaska's bears wild and alive.

Kenya is home to diverse ecosystems and ecological zones—including forest, grassland, scrubland, dry woodland, inland aquatic, coastal, and marine areas. As such, a vast array of fascinating wildlife can be found throughout the country. However, many of these species have very restricted ranges and are threatened by human activities like agriculture, dam construction, livestock grazing, and deforestation, in addition to poaching and the illegal wildlife trade. At IFAW, we recognise the important role wildlife plays in maintaining ecosystems and the health of our planet. So, we’re working hard to protect habitats, rescue and rehabilitate threatened species, combat illegal trade, and support communities and animals so they can live harmoniously alongside one another. Here are some of Kenya’s most endangered animals in 2025 that need our help.

Unique chip

Welcome to "Not a Lot of People Know That" — a series celebrating the weird and wonderful side of Aotearoa’s wildlife. From giant insects heavier than birds to snails that hunt worms, nature here is full of surprises. Through these stories, we’ll reveal the hidden quirks that make New Zealand’s ecosystems so unique — and remind us how much there is still to discover. 02: Not all red-billed gull pairs are male and female. Red-billed gulls (tarāpunga) might be known as chip thieves at the beach, but they’re far more complex than their reputation suggests. At a colony on the Kaikōura Peninsula, scientists observed something fascinating — some red-billed gull pairs were made up of two females. In these cases, one female mates with a male to fertilise the eggs, then both females share incubation duties and raise the chicks together. Despite their noisy nature and scavenger behaviour, tarāpunga play a vital role in coastal ecosystems. But they’re also in trouble. Once one of the most common seabirds in Aotearoa, red-billed gull numbers have been declining, with some colonies dropping by over 50% in recent decades.

Resilient incredibly

#DYK that mother turtles are incredibly resilient, but also face immense threats? Turtle poaching, egg harvesting, and unsustainable coastal development continue to endanger these ancient mariners. Poachers seek turtle eggs for sale and consumption, disrupting an already fragile life cycle. Without protection, countless eggs would be lost, diminishing the number of turtles that might, someday, return to nest. As we look forward to Mother’s Day on 11 May, let’s also celebrate our strong and beautiful ‘mommy turtles’! Learn more about Melur, a mother turtle who has nested twice on Terengganu’s beaches, visit: wwf.org.my/helpmotherturtles #wwfmy #SeaTurtles #MothersDay

🦅 Meet the King of the Skies — and he’s rocking that crown with pride! 👑 This fierce beauty is the Philippine Eagle, one of the largest and most powerful birds of prey on Earth. With its wild crest, piercing eyes, and massive beak, it looks like a warrior straight out of a fantasy novel. But here's the twist: despite its fearsome looks, the Philippine Eagle is critically endangered, with fewer than 400 individuals left in the wild. Found only in the dense forests of the Philippines, it’s a symbol of strength, resilience, and nature’s delicate balance. 🌿 Standing over 3 feet tall with a wingspan of 7 feet, this raptor is a true giant — and a gentle guardian of its forest home. A living legend. A fighter for survival. Nature’s rarest royalty. #animalswildlife #PhilippineEagle #ForestGuardian #WildlifeWonder #EndangeredSpecies #NaturePhotography

Extraordinary safety

#EarthDay 🐘 When the Earth Shook, Love Stood Firm 🌍 During this week’s 5.2-magnitude earthquake in California, it wasn’t just the ground that moved — it was hearts too. At the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, a powerful scene unfolded as a herd of African elephants responded to the quake in the most extraordinary way: by protecting their young. As the enclosure trembled, the elder females — Ndlula, Umngani, and Khosi — rushed to form a tight, alert circle around their two 7-year-old calves, Zuli and Mkhaya. Their bodies formed a living shield, their ears wide with awareness, ready to face any danger. One calf ran into the safety of the group. The other — brave but unsure — stayed just outside the circle, until teenage Khosi gently tapped him with her trunk, reassuring him: “You’re safe. We’re here.” This is who elephants are — deeply social, emotional beings who look after their own with love, loyalty, and fierce protection. 💚 When danger comes, they stand together. Let’s do the same — for them. 📸 Story source and Credit to The Associated Press @AP https://apnews.com/article/earthquake-elephants-san-diego-zoo-safari-park-82311a59f471f5f48319c33f1c47f702 #GMFER #Elephants #MarchAgainstExtinction #SaveTheElephants #WildlifeFamily #ConservationMatters #SanDiegoZoo #ElephantProtection #NatureKnowsBest #CompassionInTheWild #AP San Diego Zoo EarthDay.org Elephanatics Transfrontier Africa Mizu Eco-Care Global Sanctuary for Elephants Elephants Without Borders RARE Sri Lanka The Black Mambas African Parks

Safe rainbowSafe rainbow

Safe rainbow

Some friendly advice! This week we were at a rescue for some rainbow lorikeets (Trichoglossus moluccanus) that had been hit by a vehicle and laying on the road. Sadly, by the time we had arrived, the birds had been run over by another vehicle and had perished. We looked around for evidence as to how they were hit by a vehicle, because it’s unusual for several birds of this species to be in the middle of the road all at the same time, and there was still a flock flying to and from the road. On closer inspection, we found that someone had scatter seed in the middle of the road where the lorikeets began feeding and ultimately hit by vehicles. What was truly sad, the rest of the flock were not going to the seed, they were going to the deceased birds and checking on them, resting their heads on the birds bodies and touching beaks. We removed the seed from the road, and placed the birds back in the bushes so their counterparts could continue their behaviour without the threat of vehicles. This is a good reminder to avoid feeding our wildlife, particular in situations of danger, if you do intend to feed them, please research their nutrition before hand and please feed them in a place that is safe. The Southern Gold Coast is home to one of the most important remaining populations of Koalas in the world. Loopholes in Koala protections are glaring, despite being classed as endangered at both a state and national level. 🐨⚠️ Our Gold Coast Koalas need us 🐨⚠️ In the aftermath of Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, Currumbin Wildlife Hospital admitted 4x times more than the regular intake. Disaster relief is urgently needed for carers and hospital staff to support local wildlife, including Koalas. I'm calling on the Australian Government to protect our Southern Gold Coast Koalas by funding a dedicated program for safe crossings, habitat restoration, wildlife carer support, and stronger habitat protection laws. 📢 SIGN THE PETITION and help ensure the future for our precious wildlife at erchana4mcpherson.com/koala_petition Every signature makes a difference! #SaveOurKoalas #GoldCoast #Erchana4McPherson

Gentle evolved

For Baird’s tapirs, the situation has become desperate. These are truly ancient creatures, having barely evolved in the last 30 million years – but now, with their rainforest homes dwindling year on year, Baird’s tapirs are staring extinction in the face. There are now fewer than 5,500 left in the wild – and because they reproduce so slowly, with their pregnancy lasting 13 months, they’re dying out faster than they can be replaced. Donate just $36 today, and you could support our community-led conservation project in the heart of Belize’s rainforest. You could help keep camera traps running, rangers equipped and precious creatures like Baird’s tapir safe to continue their story. Please don’t wait – donate now and help save these gentle animals from extinction.

Koalas are now officially endangered in many parts of Australia. 💔 But the threats they face haven’t stopped... busy roads, predators, disease, extreme weather, and habitat loss are still putting their lives at risk every day. Just like Ajooni. 🐨 She was found stranded on a busy road in Western Sydney, scared and alone. Thankfully, a concerned motorist called WIRES, and our team acted fast. Now, she’s in the expert care of WIRES volunteer Emma, getting the love and support she needs to grow healthy and strong. Every time WIRES receives a distress call for a koala, we send an urgent alert so help can reach them without delay. We’ve sent 870 alerts in the past year… and that’s exactly how Ajooni was rescued so quickly. By taking part in Walk on the Wild Side this April, YOU are making more rescues like this possible! 💚🐨 Keep going, keep fundraising, and let’s give more koalas like Ajooni a second chance at life in the wild! 🌿💪
