For many reasons, some projects never make it off the page. This particular project, a collaboration between Sift Architecture and Local Studio, sadly did not make it through the pandemic. Set in the stunning Ozarks of rural Arkansas, this house was to be a second home-turned-retirement spot for a Chicago couple. The timing of the pandemic and very remote location of the project made getting a contractor, and also a price within the clients’ budget, impossible. It felt like a perfect storm of forces beyond anyone’s control, and ultimately the clients ended up purchasing a house instead of building.
