“Taco night” doesn’t have to mean two dinners. In fact, it's the perfect meal for helping your picky eaters learn to like new foods!
You can serve one healthy meal that works for everyone—even your picky eater.
Here’s how I do it as a pediatric dietitian and a mom:
🥑 1. Deconstruct it.
Lay out the ingredients separately: tortillas, beans, chicken, veggies, cheese, avocado, etc.
🧒 2. Let your kid choose by serving family style.
They decide what goes in their tortilla—or if they want a tortilla at all. The goal isn’t to make them try everything, it’s to give them the chance.
3. Include “safe” foods + challenge foods.
🥭If they love cheese and mangos? Put those out too. Then add 1–2 new or previously rejected foods on the table. No pressure, just presence.
Why it works:
Giving kids autonomy + consistent exposure is key to building adventurous eaters.
And when you’re modeling enjoyment of those tricky foods? Even better.
