What are we feeding ourselves? If the eyes are the window to the soul, what 'light' is pouring in through the windows? Is it the black light of the world or is it the revelatory light of Christ? "For you are all children of light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or the darkness. So then, let us not sleep, like the rest, but let us stay awake and be self-controlled." - 1 Thessalonians 5:5-6 "Therefore, with your minds ready for action. be sober-minded and set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires of your former ignorance. But as the one who called you is holy, you also are to be holy in all your conduct." 1 Peter 1:13-15 "So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life in hidden with Christ in God." Colossians 3:1-3 What are we doing? This is the question I find myself asking more and more. So often, I think we are unaware of what we are doing... mindlessly following patterns of behavior that we have learned from others. Emphasis on 'mindlessly.' I find this truth in my own life sometimes. If this world is a training ground or a proving ground, what are we proving? Are we proving to be children of God or are we proving to be children of the world? John exhorts us to "love not the world nor the things of the world" (1 John 2:15). But yet, what do we set our affections upon? What do we SHOW our love to? We may have a fondness for some person, place or thing... but does that fondness manifest in behavior? I may have strong feelings of "love" for God, but does it manifest in behavior? Does it show forth in what I do? THAT is what we need to be asking ourselves. Written by Ryan Stohldrier
