Yesterday, Cheryl visited the Coastal Virginia affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in Virginia Beach. She had a great meeting with Max Willey, board vice president and advocacy chair for NAMI Coastal Virginia, and with Martha McCrory, one of the two affiliate directors for the organization. NAMI has a mission to support, educate, and advocate for people living with mental health challenges and their families. Their office, located at 291 Independence Blvd. in the Pembroke 4 Office Building, is "cheerful and relaxing," said Cheryl. "You are welcomed into their space by the 'NAMI Llama' wearing a straw hat." They offer a variety of support groups, educational classes, community outreach initiatives, and presentations to any group that wants or needs to learn more.
