But I would strengthen you with my mouth, And the moving of my lips should asswage your grief. Not for any injustice in mine hands: Also my prayer is pure. Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, And my record is on high. My friends scorn me: but mine eye poureth out tears unto God.” Imagine yourself being gravely ill and becoming excited when your friends visit, as you look forward to their prayers and encouraging words, only to hear words of accusation and condemnation. That was Job’s experience! Job had done nothing wrong. As a matter of fact, he was described in Job chapter 1 as “perfect and upright”, and God had only allowed the enemy to touch his body to prove his faithfulness. Job was obviously disappointed in his friends, for he said, “If your soul were in my soul's stead, I could heap up words against you, And shake mine head at you. But I would strengthen you with my mouth, And the moving of my lips should asswage your grief.” If you were in my place, Job said, I would be giving you words of strength and comfort. Throughout all of the accusations, however,Job could say with confidence, “my prayer is pure. Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, And my record is on high.
