Setting boundaries in courtship can be challenging. We may look back on past mistakes and wish for a fresh start. Thankfully, while we cannot turn back time, we have something even greater—the grace and mercy of God in Christ. We are graciously invited to 'come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need' (Hebrews 4:16, KJV). God knows the whole matter, even before we speak. Through faith in Christ, we are forgiven and made at peace with God, enabling us to walk anew: 'Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ' (Romans 5:1, KJV). In humble reliance on God, we can set new parameters that honor Him and protect our purity. As Scripture reminds us, 'Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart' (2 Timothy 2:22, KJV). Practical steps might include limiting dating to public spaces and postponing physical affection until after marriage, trusting God’s guidance in all things.
