MARKING TREATY TWO IN LITTLE SASKATCHEWAN
The Little Saskatchewan First Nation is the latest to mark the 154th anniversary of Treaty Two.
This week, Chief Hector Shorting, Council, and representatives of Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) kicked off the Nation’s annual Treaty Days celebration with payouts.
Meanwhile, staff from the Nation’s Band office kicked off a week of activities in a tasty way, hosting a take-out pancake breakfast.
This was a good way to acknowledge our peoples’ rights and traditional territories, but also served as a reminder that there is much that needs to be done to repair the working relationship between our Nations and our Treaty partners.
Today, the Southern Chiefs’ Organization (SCO) acknowledges the leadership and people of Little Saskatchewan for creating a joyful community event to mark their Nation’s sacred Treaty.
Treaty Days events are taking place in many of our First Nations, and SCO is pleased to share a list of celebrations taking place in our member Nations.
