This may be the biggest transformation in an animal we've ever seen! We've featured this large, handsome boy before: it's Rex, the 2-year-2-old Anatolian Shepherd. However, we didn't highlight Rex's story! It all starts with a call from a relative of Rex's owner. His owner was no longer able to care for him. The relative couldn't catch Rex, as Rex was terrified of collars, leashes, and harnesses. In fact, this poor guy was terrified of EVERYTHING — the relative said he had never even been outside! Our Emergency Response team were able to safely pick up Rex and bring him to our East shelter. Understandably, Rex found the shelter environment overwhelming. Even the floor was too much for Rex to walk on, and the staff were able to move him around by placing him on a blanket. Despite being in such a frightened, uncertain state, staff were surprised that Rex was still incredibly sweet and well-mannered. They just needed a plan to get him more comfortable. Staff also discovered that Rex had quite a bag of tricks up his sleeve, he knew sit, down, shake both paws, spin and speak! Sometimes, if a dog is shy around people, introducing them to another dog can help them come out of their shell quickly. So we carefully brought in another dog for Rex to meet… and they immediately hit it off! Turns out, this boy LOVES other pups — so much so that he took his first steps outside to play with the other dogs! The plan worked perfectly. Rex loves having other dogs to play with, and he also became quite attached to shelter staff as well! Rex began to show more and more courage, conquering his fear of the floor, learning how to walk on a leash and was happy to spend quality time with people. We couldn't be prouder! It is so heartwarming to see how much zest he has for life. Now it's time for Rex to find his forever home. We've so proud of how far Rex has come, and we want him to find the family and home he deserves!
