New to sobriety? Here’s what helped me make it 1 year, 16 days {& counting} ✨
1. Start with God.
This wasn’t meant to be done alone.
Ask Him to carry what you can’t.
Surrender isn’t weakness, it’s the beginning of freedom.
2. Recovery comes first. Always.
One thing I learned in treatment:
“Whatever you put before your recovery is the second thing you’ll lose.”
If it comes before sobriety, you’ll lose both.
3. Change people, places & things.
If the same route you drive home takes you past your old ABC store? Take the long way home.
Seriously — turn up the music and give yourself a detour.
Protect your peace before you have to fight for it.
4. Learn the truth about alcohol.
This isn’t just about willpower—it’s about brain science. Understand the science. How it hijacks your brain. Learn about dopamine, cravings, patterns, triggers. It takes the shame out and gives you power back.
Knowledge = power. Power = freedom.
5. Find your people.
Your inner circle may love you… but they might not get this part.
You need someone who’s walked through it.
(Need a buddy? I’m a good one. 👀)
6. Romanticize the normal.
Slow mornings. Coffee in your favorite cup. Clean laundry.
Sober doesn’t mean boring—it means clear. Peaceful. Beautiful.
7. Plan ahead.
• Get gas before White Claw o’clock 🙃
• Keep your fridge stocked with “safe” drinks - and take them with you to events that may have alcohol (if you’re comfortable going)
• Grocery shop with a friend
• Avoid people who tempt you
Stay one step ahead of your triggers. Be intentional.
8. Journal. Pray. Feel.
Write it out. Talk to God. Don’t wait for a crisis. Awareness is what keeps you rooted—check in even when things feel okay.
9. Gratitude.
Every single day.
Not just for the big wins, but for the tiny ones, too. The ones no one sees.
And finally…
You can do everything right and still have hard moments.
There will be triggers. Life will still life.
But cravings pass. Feelings pass. God stays.
When in doubt?
Do the next right thing.

The stages of drinking...
So much of a difference from the beginning to end.
I was lost and had no idea.
The whole time I thought I was extroverted - I was just drunk. Mingling with everyone and not really knowing anyone. Trading my deep connections for comfortable surface level conversations.
Feels good to be on the other side. The other side where I open up when I'm comfortable, not where Sauvignon Blanc is running through my veins.
On this side I feel grounded.
I feel at peace.
I do things that bring me joy and say no to the things that don't.
I feel aligned in purpose. 🙏✨

the greatest gift i gave myself this year was…sobriety! my last drink was christmas eve of last year. today marks one whole year, 365 days without alcohol 🥹 what started as curiosity, grew into the strongest form of self-love and self-care. my original thought was to complete dry january. i’d never tried it before and wanted to see if i could do it. it was easier than expected. so, i challenged myself to do the month of february as well. before i knew it, i was inching closer and closer to six months! when i hit nine, i knew i’d reach the year. this experience has been life-changing for me. alcohol plays a big role in society and i was nervous i would fall into temptation. being a social person, going out with friends was the truest test of my capability. but each time i realized i still had so much fun, and it got easier and easier. super thankful to the friends i visited with this year, who supported me on this journey. and never once peer pressured me nor made fun of what i was trying to accomplish. in fact, quite the opposite. my family was my rock this year, they always are. they cheered me on and for that i am forever grateful. the best part? i still was completely myself this year. still danced my heart out, met up with friends at bars, traveled domestically and abroad, celebrated life milestones with absolute recollection of each night. my memories this year are rich and full, with no gaps. i am so, so incredibly proud of myself. i’ve gained such mental clarity. i trust and respect myself so much more because of this feat. it’s boosted my self-confidence and self-discipline. i never anticipated any of this, let alone that this would cause a snowball effect of making other changes to my lifestyle. the discipline and focus it took to compete this, has now trickled down into other areas of my life. ultimately, i have to praise God. He guided my steps and reminded me i am capable of doing anything i set my mind to. and the crazy part? i don’t really miss it. here’s to one year sober and many, many more to come 🥂😘

Happy Sober 2025 ! I sat on my floor alone last night looking at an old bottle of wine and cider from trips years ago and debating on having a drink or 3 or the entire bottle, unashamed.
I could have told myself so many reasons to justify it as I put it up and walked away.
Why? because that's not what I promised myself years ago.
I promised myself I would only drink if the 1 drink paired well with the meal I was having and I had no ulterior motives or feelings behind it. I had plenty of ulterior motives and feelings lately.
Staying up late is easily accessible tonight, getting drunk or high is easily accessible tonight, and dare I say widely supported for today but sober is a very different choice.
SOBER IS A BOLD STATEMENT.
(If you're not bold enough yet to make that statement then at least schedule a sober driver.)
What will your 2025 statement be to the world ?
