🌱🔬 Many congratulations to UCD Assistant Professors Olga Lastovetsky and Ekin Ozer, whose research projects have been funded under Research Ireland’s 'Frontiers for the Future’ Programme. The projects are among 23 that will share in a total of €23.6 million awarded to tackle major societal challenges, such as AI, healthcare, agriculture, energy, and transport. The Frontiers for the Future Programme funds high-risk, high-reward research programmes and innovative, collaborative research with the potential to deliver economic and societal impact. Their funded projects are: 🔹 Dr Olga Lastovetsky, UCD School of Biology and Environmental Science� Project: AG-MICRO: Promoting Sustainable Agriculture through Microbe-Microbe and Microbe-Plant interactions (Awarded €805,963.60) 🔹 Dr Ekin Ozer, UCD School of Civil Engineering� Project: Harmonizing Nonhomogeneous Crowdsourcing Data and Formulating Citizen Incentives towards Self-Governing Bridge Monitoring (€631,914.20)

Foster of The University of the West Indies for his remarkable achievement in receiving the prestigious 2024 International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) Research Grant! 🎉 Dr. Foster’s groundbreaking project, "Metagenomic Surveillance for Potential Viral Pathogens in Illegally Imported Wildlife and Livestock Species in Trinidad, West Indies," highlights his dedication to advancing public health and safeguarding our ecosystems. 🌍🧬 Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Dr. Foster is a distinguished academic and researcher who earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from UWI, St. Augustine, in 2004. His early research explored the molecular evolution of dengue viruses in the Caribbean, uncovering how geographical and geopolitical factors influence pathogen spread. Currently, as a Senior Lecturer and Biochemistry Unit Coordinator at UWI, Dr. Foster leads research in virology, molecular biology, and bioinformatics, focusing on critical issues such as viral evolution, metabolic syndrome, and public health.
