If you’re struggling with forgiving yourself, you’re not alone. It can take time—but it’s one of the most freeing and powerful things you can do, both spiritually and emotionally. Why God Wants Us to Forgive Ourselves 1. God is merciful, not condemning. From a spiritual perspective, God desires healing and restoration, not punishment. When we hold onto guilt and shame, we block the grace and peace that God wants to give us. Forgiveness, including self-forgiveness, is a way of accepting that grace. 2. You can’t live fully in love while living in shame. If you believe you’re unworthy or permanently damaged, it’s hard to receive love or give it fully. God wants us to love others as we love ourselves—and that starts with seeing ourselves the way He sees us: redeemed, valuable, and forgiven. 3. Forgiveness frees us to grow.Spiritually, holding onto guilt is like living with chains. God wants us to live in freedom, to learn from mistakes, and to walk forward, not stay stuck in the past. Why Forgiveness Is Necessary for Good Mental Health 1. Reduces stress and anxiety:Carrying guilt, resentment, or self-hatred creates chronic mental stress. Forgiveness—especially self-forgiveness—lowers cortisol, reduces anxiety, and gives peace of mind. 2. Breaks cycles of shame and self-sabotage:When we don’t forgive ourselves, we often keep punishing ourselves, sometimes unconsciously. That can lead to destructive habits, depression, and low self-worth. 3. Improves relationships:Self-forgiveness helps us show up better in relationships. We’re less defensive, more empathetic, and less likely to project our shame onto others. 4. Promotes healing and resilience:Forgiveness, even when it’s hard, builds emotional strength. It helps us move forward, grow, and respond to future challenges with more clarity and compassion. #TheB-YourBestTherapist #carconversations #listentoyourtherapist #B-YourBest #christianpsychotherapist #therapist #christiancounseling #christiancounselor #jesusandtherapy #christian #blackwomen #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #change

I can’t tell you his story. Or even our story, together. The story of my marriage to him changes, day by day, even for me. I can tell you he was waiting for me. I know it because he wrote to me. He wrote to me continually over the two years between our divorce and his death. He wrote to me long after I stopped responding. And each time he wrote, mixed through the incoherent, contradictory sentences, between the parts where he told me how my writing was pathetic without him, between the insults thrown toward my mother and friends, and even as he told me how I was sick and shallow, how I was heartless and broken, and how in the end I would have nothing, he always fell back into the same heartbreaking refrain. He would forgive me. He still loved me. He would take me back. If only I would come back. He was waiting.

HeadspaceHeadspace

Headspace

Therapy is a journey, and the timing of sessions—whether it’s once a week, every 10 days, or any other frequency—is not random. It’s a balance carefully decided between the therapist and the client, and here’s why it matters so much. When therapy sessions are too frequent, say every 3-4 days, it can become emotionally overwhelming for the client. Being in the same intense headspace both in and out of sessions leaves little time to process what’s discussed, to breathe, and to gain clarity. Without that mental break, it can feel like you’re stuck in a loop, constantly revisiting the same feelings or thoughts without finding resolution. For therapists, it’s equally important to have space between sessions. Heavy conversations require emotional energy, reflection, and thought. A therapist needs time to process what’s happening in the sessions, prepare thoughtfully, and ensure they’re bringing their best perspective to the table. Without this, both the client and therapist can lose clarity, and sessions risk becoming repetitive rather than productive. Therapy works best when there’s time to step back, reflect, and integrate what was discussed. That’s why the breaks between sessions are not about convenience—they’re about creating space for fresh perspectives and thoughtful progress. It allows both the client and the therapist to engage meaningfully, rather than being caught in the whirlwind of constant emotional processing. It is not just about the hour you spend together—it’s about the life you live in between those hours. And sometimes, giving yourself that space makes all the difference. . . . #therapyfrequency #aavegwellbeingandtherapy #mentalheathorganisation #mentalhealthfoundation #reasonfortherapybreaks
