Travelling with your baby this summer? Make sure they’re protected before you take off. Children ages 6–11 months are now eligible for an early dose of the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine if they are travelling internationally or within Canada to areas with known measles activity. They’ll still need the regular 2-dose series later, but this early dose offers crucial protection right now. Measles spreads easily and Canada is currently experiencing its worst outbreak in decades. The VI Department of Health is continuously monitoring the measles outbreak across the US. More than 800 cases have been confirmed in 22 states as of Friday. In the USVI, only 44% of 12 month to 6-year-olds have received the MMR vaccine that provides 97% protection against measles. We're urging parents of more than half of our youngest and most vulnerable population to get them vaccinated now. Don't wait.
