Bowie Animal Control has teamed up with Bowie Claw to host a cat adoption event on Saturday, August 16 from 12 to 3 p.m. in the front lobby of City Hall. Volunteers will be available to answer questions about the adoptable animals present. If you are thinking of adding a feline friend to your home, or just looking for more information about the cats or Bowie CLAW, please drop by. If you are unable to adopt at this time, but would still like to show your support, we invite you to drop off donations at the event. We will accept blankets, towels, unscented clumping litter, pee pads, KMR or Petlac kitten formula, and wellness brand cat food. Happy Adopt-a-Day Sweet Tiger Lily ❤ One year ago, I adopted this little gremlin—oops, I mean angel—and our lives were forever changed. Her scarred eyes tell the tale of a tough kittenhood, but she’s now a dynamic, mischievous ball of sass and fluff. Tiger Lily loves scattering her toys all over the house as if she's starting her own abstract art collection. She also believes our curtains needed her “claw couture” makeover—because apparently, plain fabric is too passé for her standards. And when it comes to running, let’s just say the Olympics could use her. In April 2024, her turbo mode led to a head-on collision with a kitchen cabinet. She survived the ordeal after a week long treatment, but the cabinet may still be in therapy. In November, she gave me the scare of my life by pretending to be lifeless on the bed. Turned out, she wasn’t auditioning for a dramatic role—she had contracted a calici virus. A long battle and some major feline stubbornness later, she bounced back (literally). Then last month, her breath could’ve knocked out a rhino, which led to another vet visit, three teeth extracted, and me becoming a part-time vet nurse again. Despite the chaos, sleepless nights, and emergency vet trips, I wouldn’t trade this past year for the world. My darling Tiger Lily, my only wish is for us to share many more years of love, laughter, and me cleaning up after your shenanigans. ❤ Love you! Mum Julia

Απο τότε που βρέθηκε στον δρόμο μέσα στο χαρτόκουτο που καθόταν για μέρες ακινητοποιημένη από τον πόνο πέρασαν πια τρεις μήνες. Τρεις μήνες από τότε που έκρυβε το κεφαλάκι της κάτω από τα υποσέντονα για να προφυλαχτεί από όσα άγνωστα αντίκριζε για πρώτη φορά στην ζωή της. Αφού δεν μπορούσε πια να τρέξει το μόνο που μπορούσε να κάνει ήταν να κρυφτεί. Για να μην δει κατάματα όσα φοβόταν ότι την απειλούσαν. Την αγάπη,την φροντίδα και το ενδιαφέρον. Αυτά απέφευγε. Αυτά αγνοουσε και της έφερναν φόβο . Πράγματα άγνωστα ως τότε σε εκείνη πώς να τολμήσει να εμπιστευτεί; Το έκανε όμως. Σιγά σιγά εβγαλε το κεφαλάκι της από τις κουβέρτες. Μας κοίταξε. Μας ζύγισε. Μας έμαθε και μας εμπιστεύτηκε. Εμάς και σιγά σιγά και άλλους. Και έτσι άλλαξε η μορφή της. Έτσι απέκτησε αυτή την καινούργια που σας είπαμε, την φωτεινή, την σίγουρη. Αυτή που αποκτούν όταν πια νιώθουν ασφαλή. Αυτά που αποκτούν μέσα από την αγάπη. Σίγουρα την έχετε δει και εσείς. What she ignored. What terrified her. How could she dare to trust something so unfamiliar? But she did. Little by little, she peeked out from under the blankets. She looked at us. She studied us. She learned who we were and decided to trust us. First us, then, slowly, others too. And that’s how she changed. That’s how she gained this new form—the bright, confident one. Socks needs your help to build his confidence! This BIG boy is shy when confronted with new and unfamiliar settings, but will instantly forget his fears when there’s a string toy darting around for him to chase - his sudden transformation to leaps and dashes impresses everyone. When you do get close to him and start petting him he absolutely loves the attention, and will flop right over and let you rub his belly while he starts kneading with his paws straight up in the air. Socks is also quite happy to snuggle up for a nap on the couch with you. You might not hear much from him at first - he hasn’t quite figured out to meow yet, so the best he can do is a tiny squeak! But when he’s settled in and marching around your home with his favorite toys, he will trill proudly over and over. Socks was born 8/14/23. Και όταν λέμε η μοίρα θα την χτυπούσε αλύπητα εννοούμε ότι θα βίωνε συνθήκες τραγικής αποστέρησης όπου το φαί δεν θα ερχόταν τη στιγμή που το ήθελε, οι κονσέρβες μπορεί να μην είχαν την γεύση που προτιμά και τα χάδια να μην ήταν πάντα διαθέσιμα. Και φυσικά οι άνθρωποι που την φιλοξενούν τώρα η αυτοί που θα την υιοθετήσουν θα είναι οι "κακοί" πρωταγωνιστές της ταινίας υπεύθυνοι για αυτές τις στερήσεις, κάτι αντίστοιχο της αγαπημένης κατά τα άλλα Τασώς Καβαδία. Αυτή είναι η Βούρτση μας. Μια γάτα γλυκιά, ανθρωποκεντρική και χαδιαρα πολύ ομιλητική και φυσικά όπως όλοι καταλάβαμε πολύ κλαψιάρα.
