For this event, the renowned Italian organist Donato Giupponi, who will play the Grand Organ of the First Congregational Church of Los Angeles on August 3, will swap it for a more delicate instrument: an 8-foot Steinway. He will be joined by the principal cellist of the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra, John Walz, and the internationally acclaimed concert soloist and recording artist, soprano Veronica Bell, promising an enchanting concert experience for all lovers of classical music. The program will take you on a whirlwind tour through the classical music landscape, showcasing beloved masterpieces from legends such as Bach and Mozart, alongside Italian romantics Verdi and Puccini, and the fresh and contemporary sounds of modern Italian composer Carlotta Ferrari, who proves that classical music is not just for the stuffy. “Each performer brings a unique perspective and depth to the music,” says DMG Music Association Director Sylviane Herzog. “We are thrilled to present this incredible program that pays homage to classical tradition while celebrating contemporary innovation.” The concert takes place in an intimate setting of the famous Hollywood Piano. This concert also features James Whitbourn’s evocative Son of God Mass . Uniquely scored for choir, organ, and soprano saxophone, it has been described by Classic Today as ‘a gem, a masterpiece’ . Compellingly written throughout, at times contemplative and mysterious, at others soaring and exuberant, the music is exceptionally moving and always sensitive to the texts. There will be drama aplenty with brass and organ fanfares accompanying James MacMillan’s Summae Trinitati and Gerald Finzi’s God is gone up before works of peaceful reflection written by Paul Mealor and Cecilia McDowall. Alongside the renowned Southwark Cathedral organist, Simon Hogan, the internationally acclaimed all-female trombone group - Bones Apart - will surely make this powerful programme sparkle as they lead a stellar handpicked brass ensemble.
