Agcobile is one of the many young people whose lives have been transformed through Phakama! Youth Activation Programme. In Langa – one of Cape Town’s oldest townships – the path from education to employment is steep. With youth unemployment at 43%, many young people are eager to work but locked out of opportunity. That’s where Just Grace steps in. Through their Phakama! Youth Activation Programme, they’re helping bridge the gap. Designed for youth aged 17–25, the programme offers personal development, computer literacy, and career-specific training in one of three streams: accounting, barista, or sewing. Participants leave not only with practical skills but also with renewed confidence and a clear next step – whether that’s further study, specialised training, or meaningful work. Agcobile Mhlambiso is one of the many young people whose lives have been transformed through Phakama!. She joined the barista stream in 2023 and quickly discovered it was the perfect fit. ‘Agcobile’s hardworking attitude and natural, friendly demeanour made her a natural at the job,’ says programme manager Annie Smith. ‘Committed and willing to learn, she took the opportunity and really made the most of it.’ Agcobile went on to join the team at Bootlegger Coffee Company, where her dedication and talent saw her crowned the Bootlegger Western Cape Barista Champion in 2024.
