OK, so I did something at Target last week that I've NEVER done before... I Skipped right Past the Hair-Care aisle. Didn't even glance at it. The same aisle where I've spent literal HOURS, reading every bottle that promised… "Thicker, Fuller-Hair." For years, I've been grabbing every "volumizing" shampoo Target had to offer. (even tried other stores like CVS and Walmart…) That purple Pantene bottle that swears it'll transform your hair overnight (it only made my hair sticky). The Dove shampoo that my daughter swears by (she got her naturally thick hair from her father's side). Even that expensive Nexxus brand they keep in a glass case that costs more than my groceries. Every single one promised the same thing - thicker, fuller-looking hair. But you know what actually did it for me? What finally made me realize I was throwing money down the drain? Those security-cameras with the TV screens showing you from above. Because when I was grabbing paper towels during my regular Target run… When I glanced up at one of those monitors… The overhead view showed my scalp so clearly that I actually gasped out loud. I remember seeing a group of teenagers laugh at me. And I just walked straight out to my car and sat there. Staring at my balding head in the car mirror. That night, I called my sister in tears. "I can't even shop at Target anymore without feeling horrible about my hair," I told her. She listened to me vent for a good twenty-minutes (bless her) before finally saying… "You know, my friend Lisa works at that fancy dermatology place where all the rich ladies go. She might know something that actually works." I literally begged her to ask for me. The next morning, my sister texted me: "Just talked to Lisa about your hair. She sent me this article about treatments that actually work. Look at #1 on the list!!" It ranked the Top 5 Brands for Women with Thinning-Hair. I almost didn't bother. I mean, I'd tried everything Target, Walmart and CVS had to offer. Expect my sister went out of her way just to do this for me. And I love and trust her, so I gave it a shot. But as I was reading about #1… I realized why all those fancy shampoos didn't work. Turns out Women's Hair-Loss has like 3 different causes. But those companies treat it like we're men (1 problem, 1 solution). I swear, men have it so easy… Us Women? Way more complicated. Either way, I ordered it with my last bit of hope. The first week, nothing really happened. Just my usual routine of finding hair everywhere but on my head. But by week three… I noticed less hair in my brush each morning. Then the shower drain wasn't clogging up as quickly. And those baby hairs along my hairline were actually growing. When I really noticed a difference? A couple of months later, I went to Target again. This time, I didn't duck away from those security camera screens. I actually looked up at the monitor. And for the first time in forever, I didn't immediately look away in disgust. My Hair looked... Full. Like, actually full. I even snapped a quick-selfie and posted it on Facebook that night with no filter. ME with NO FILTER! Next morning, my phone was blowing up with likes and comments. My sister called me right away. "Your hair looks amazing in that pic! Is that really from that article I sent you? Because if it is, I need it ASAP 😫" I told her yes, and she immediately ordered it for herself. Then my Facebook inbox started filling up with messages from friends asking what I was using. "Omg your hair looks amazing! New stylist?" "Did you get extensions?? They look so natural!" "Girl, spill the secret! What is your hair routine?" Sooo is my hair perfect? Of course not. I'm not 25 anymore. But it's so much better that I don't hide under hats anymore. And I can actually shop at Target without having a meltdown in public. Anyways, just wanted to share my story here.
