The International Criminal Tribunal (ICT) has issued arrest warrants for former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 11 others, including retired Major General Tarique Ahmed Siddique and former IGP Benazir Ahmed. The charges stem from allegations of enforced disappearances and crimes against humanity during the Awami League's 15-year rule. Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam accused law enforcement agencies like RAB, DB, CTTC, and DGFI of orchestrating systematic disappearances under state sponsorship, creating a "culture of fear." The tribunal has directed the inspector general of police to arrest the accused and produce them in court by 12 February. An investigation report is expected on that day, or a progress report on arrests will be required. This is the second arrest warrant issued against Hasina, following earlier charges of genocide and crimes against humanity during the 2023 mass uprisings. Numerous cases of human rights violations, including enforced disappearances, have been filed against Hasina and Awami League leaders since their government fell.
