This one’s personal! That’s my dad’s painting on a client’s kitchen wall, and every time I see it, it gets me. He spent a lifetime working hard and showing up for our family, and now, in this new season, he paints. He doesn’t paint from life or sit for hours in the wild with an easel; he paints from images that move him. This one was inspired by a photograph from Edward S. Curtis. I call it original-ish art, because make no mistake: the eye, the hand, and the light that lingers on the canvas are all MY DAD. He so deeply appreciates what the photographer captured, and just needs to bring it to life again with a brush. He’s incredibly talented. And seeing his work in a space I designed feels like the sweetest kind of collaboration.
