🪶 How did the Hope Serves Resource Fair get its beginning? What was its inspiration? First came the challenge from Justin Unger to take Celebrate Recovery to people on the streets. Go to the Plaza and share that true freedom IS possible from all hurts, habits, and hang-ups. We were instructed to set aside any agenda and preconceptions. Just meet people where they are…show them love. Offer hope. 🌼 “I began to reflect on my early days of surrender to the recovery process (now 25+ years – more of my testimony at another time) and recognized the many areas where I needed to find support and resources since I basically checked out of life for several years. I needed things like health checks, education, legal advice, parenting support, and others. Some of my friends needed to obtain a driver’s license, seek counseling, find employment, and resolve issues with the courts. That is when I was reminded that addiction, abuse, and even mental illness do not happen in a vacuum, i.e., entire families have had their lives, in many cases, turned upside-down too, while a loved one was lost. What would that kind of help look like: for the person new to recovery and the family that has faced so many challenges? This is how the Hope Serves Resource Fair started. While Hope Fest’s roots are grounded in recovery, the event has seen explosive growth by offering a variety of relevant solutions that empower families to make healthy choices and thrive.
