•Starting October 3, 2024, Canada Startup Visa applicants will be eligible for a three-year open work permit, enhancing their ability to focus on their startups while also exploring other employment opportunities in Canada.
•From April 30, 2024, to December 31, 2026, each designated entity in Canada’s Startup Visa program will be restricted to supporting a maximum of 10 startups annually to ensure focused mentorship and support, while also helping the IRCC manage application backlogs caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
•Certain applications, particularly those backed by at least CAD 75,000 in Canadian capital or by a member of Canada’s Tech Network, will receive priority processing, along with in-Canada applicants actively developing their startups, potentially leading to permanent residence approvals in as little as 15 months.
•The annual quota for permanent residency under the SUV category will decrease from 7,000 to 3,000 in 2025 and further to 2,000 in 2026 and 2027, as part of Canada’s strategy to manage immigration and address integration and housing challenges.
•Starting August 1, 2024, the peer review process will be abolished, with the IRCC directly managing angel investors, venture capital funds, and business incubators under the SUV program, rather than delegating these responsibilities to the National Angel Capital Organization.
