We are currently facing a challenging situation at sheltter. Among the many animals under our care, we have a few young puppies in critical condition. One is still warded at the vet, while three others have tested positive for both distemper and tick fever, a serious and life-threatening combination, especially in young dogs. On top of this, our shelter is battling a severe tick and flea infestation. Despite our best efforts, eliminating these parasites has been a real struggle. The most effective solution is to administer Nexgard or similar treatments, which work systemically to kill ticks and fleas. Unfortunately, these medications are costly, especially when needed in large quantities for so many dogs. We have tried bathing the dogs with anti-parasitic solutions, but it is extremely difficult and time-consuming. Many of the dogs are afraid and run away, making it hard to catch and treat them individually. Some may not respond well to topical solutions alone.
