This unique performance weaves together ancient words by powerful women with music from 12C convents to 19C salons. “Woman, Blazing” explores and celebrates the power that comes with speech and song. Step into a unique tapestry of words and melodies with a captivating new pastiche by the Irwin Street Collective, UWA Voice, UWA Piano, and UWA Strings, in collaboration with celebrated writer Catherine Noske (UWA English and Literary Studies) and Hannah Lee Tungate (The Tenth Muse Initiative). Each of the texts contemplate the power that comes with speech or song, and each configure that power at different points through an image of blazing light. The libretto moves through the various manifestations of this, a journey from the sacred, through love, vulnerability and rage, to self-empowerment.
