Plando, to strengthen institutional ties marking a significant step towards enhanced collaboration in science and technology (S&T). Led by Provincial Director Mariel Makinano, the DOST-SDN's Grants-in-Aid (GIA) team, including Engr. Mildred Eileen L. Ronsable, Engr. Rey Jeeve I. Tambole, Engr. Julius D. Cagampang, and Engr. Stephen Q. Yecyec, and Engr. Jovan O. Agbu, engaged in productive discussions with Dr. Plando and key SNSU officials. Joining them were Dr. Romy Jun Sunico, Jr., the Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension (VPRIE) and Ar. Lufrey Potente, the University Architect. The meeting commenced with a warm exchange of greetings and congratulations to Dr. Plando on her recent appointment. PD Makinano then proceeded with an in-depth discussion of ongoing collaborative projects between DOST-SDN and SNSU, highlighting key initiatives aimed at fostering innovation, research, and economic development in the province. The presentation showcased groundbreaking initiatives set to drive innovation and economic growth in Surigao del Norte. Leading the lineup was the 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 (𝐌𝐄𝐈𝐂), a cutting-edge facility dedicated to advancing metalworking technologies and positioning itself as a premier research and development (R&D) hub for metal fabrication, in collaboration with industry partners. Equally impactful is the 𝐁𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐨𝐨 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫, a visionary project designed to enhance environmental sustainability while strengthening the province’s economic resilience through bamboo-based innovations. The 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 was also highlighted as a dynamic hub for food processing research and development, fostering product innovation and market competitiveness. Enhancing this ecosystem is the 𝐃𝐎𝐒𝐓 𝐒𝐍𝐒𝐔 𝐖𝐀𝐕𝐄𝐒 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐮𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫, a catalyst for technopreneurship, providing startups with critical support in business development, market access, and innovation scaling. Another key project, the 𝐆𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭 𝐑𝐮𝐦 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, aims to propel the local rhum industry onto the national and global stage, solidifying its role as a major economic driver. Lastly, pioneering initiatives under the 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 were presented, reinforcing the commitment to building resilient, technology-driven communities that prioritize sustainability and inclusive growth. Dr. Plando expressed her strong support for these initiatives, providing valuable insights to enhance project implementation. She reaffirmed her commitment to prioritizing S&T projects and strengthening collaboration with DOST. In response, DOST-SDN underscored its dedication to expanding its partnership with SNSU and its stakeholders, with a shared vision of advancing scientific and economic progress in Surigao del Norte.
