LOVE IS BEAUTIFUL. MAN SELLS HIS SOUL TO SAVE HIS LOVER'S LIFE.
Somewhere in the eastern part of Nigeria many centuries ago, there existed a certain wonder of nature. A large expanse of farmland land believed to hold the breath of God Himself. People named it Ubi Ndu (farm of life). Ubi Ndu was so fertile, it caused plants to grow and yield harvest within a single month of cultivation. This wonderland was strategically placed between two neighboring kingdoms, Ezedibia and Ezeogba.
Ezeogba was larger in landmass and population, but Ezedibia had a greater share of natural resources. The two kingdoms lived in harmony, intermarried, and even shared the mystic Ubi Ndu evenly. For many centuries they grew in strength, resisted invasions from enemy kingdoms, until the year 1885.
In the year 1885, Eze Njoku the king of Ezeogba, invited his neighbor Eze Obi the paramount ruler of Ezedibia, to a conference. At the conference, Eze Njoku appealed to his guest to permit him a larger portion of Ubi Ndu. His reasons being that he has a larger kingdom and of course larger mouths to feed. This did not go down well with Eze Obi who bluntly declined the request, abandoned the meeting, and severed relations with his greedy neighbor.
War arose for the sole possession of the mystic land. Blood flowed, heads rolled, Ezedibia kingdom lost many warriors; Eze Obi pulled his surviving forces out of battle, and Ezeogba kingdom gained the disputed land.
The two kingdoms had one more thing in common, a joint source of water supply, the Okitankwo River.
Because Okitankwo sat at the middle of Ezedibia kingdom, Ezeobi in retaliation of his loss to the king of Ezeogba, cut off Ezeogba’s access to the River… but it didn’t end there. Some scoundrels from Ezedibia also gang raped a young Ezeogba woman who was unknown to them, a nursing mother, on her way to the guarded river— and she died in the process.
News spread throughout Ezedibia that the deceased woman was no commoner, but Princess Chiazom, the only daughter of Eze Njoku, the king of Ezeogba, wife and nursing mother of Achulike, the brutal warlord of Ezeogba kingdom
.
Panic crept into Ezedibia and caressed the young and old, rich and poor. Everyone knew what was coming. Ezeogba had the largest and strongest army in the region, with a large network of allies. Ezedibia on the other hand nursed her wounds and counted her loses from the biggest defeat no generation had ever experienced in times past. The sun stood above their rooftops like a keg of gunpowder waiting to explode.
As they waited patiently, hoping for the best but expecting the worse, something unthinkable happened ***
