With temperatures soaring many young people are headed to the sea, but teenagers are one of the groups at highest risk of drowning (Water Accident Incident Database 2024). Teenage boys are especially at risk, often overestimating their abilities, acting on impulse, or getting into dangerous situations to impress friends. It's vital that teenagers are aware of the potential dangers so that they can enjoy their time at the coast and return home safely. • Cold water shock can hit fast, even in the middle of summer. • Rip currents are powerful and can quickly carry you out to sea. • Submerged objects can cause serious injury, avoid jumping in from height. If in trouble in the water, float to live. Tilt your head back with your ears submerged, relax and control your breathing, and move your hands and legs to help you stay afloat.
