From observances and wishes we’ve shared on these pages over the years, I know many among us have a practice of faith. This Easter I thought I would share a bit about a book I came upon not long ago. The Second Way A Path to Renew examines life lessons Jesus of Nazareth modeled living humanity in the image and likeness in which we are created. Lessons rooted in the second great commandment, loving neighbor as we love ourselves. Lessons embraced by an ecumenical array of faith traditions along with people of good heart and generous purpose regardless of faith. The book begins with love of neighbor. All those of good heart are invited to better our world by practicing simple acts of everyday kindness, loving neighbors in need as Jesus loved neighbors. Simple acts of service within reach of every person every day. In loving neighbor all are invited to experience healthy love of self. Invited to discover the authentic self in which we are created, the image and likeness of God. Loving neighbor is affirmation of faith by whatever tradition for those who serve. Invitation to faith for those serving who encounter God’s self within. Life lessons for all who by acts of compassion renew God’s face to a world in desperate need of renewal. Why this book? We know those who may benefit by these lessons. They are our children, grandchildren, family, friends, and neighbors. Those fallen away from the practice of faith, or those later in life who feel need to find a way home. Even those yet to find faith in their lives. This book is for all of them.
