Jen's own journey fueled the creation of Healing Steps. Her words on their website resonate with a deep understanding of the human spirit: "Since 2017, I’ve been helping people break free from anxiety, disconnection, and patterns that hold them back—guiding them toward a life of confidence, connection, and wholeness." Jen, a trauma recovery coach, emphasizes that healing isn't about erasing the past but rather about understanding how our inner landscape of emotions, nervous system responses, and ingrained habits shapes our present relationships, particularly the crucial one we have with ourselves. "We see a need for our community who struggle mentally, and we have a heart for those who need us," she says, her voice filled with genuine compassion. Her connection to the therapeutic power of horses began in childhood, witnessing her own mother's struggles. After her mother's passing, she found her way to Walk With Me in 2019, driven by an innate understanding of the solace animals can provide. "My Why – My Girls!" Lindi exclaims, her passion evident. "I want them to know that you can have healthier relationships! Your past doesn’t determine your future. You can always work on yourself." Her dedication is particularly focused on empowering women, a mission she feels deeply called to. Equine therapy, a cornerstone of their offerings, holds a special significance for Lindi. "I knew when I had my experience with them and seeing how healing they can be, I knew even from a young age this is what I wanted to do. Before my mom passed, she said, 'You need to pursue it.' So I did. Along this journey, I have seen my life change." She recounts a powerful anecdote, a testament to the transformative impact of their work: "When I was an equestrian specialist, we used to meet with a young lady and the therapist, and when she would come to the farm in the beginning, she would come hunched over with her hair a mess and in pajama pants. After she chose her relationship horse and came a few times, she returned in her Wranglers and boots, her hair was done, and she had makeup on. She said, 'You’ve changed my life.'" This story encapsulates the quiet miracles that unfold within the farm's embrace. Caldwell County, like many communities, grapples with the pervasive challenges of mental health, trauma, and addiction. These issues often intertwine, creating complex struggles that can feel isolating and overwhelming. New clients are always accepted, and referrals are not required, making their services readily available to anyone seeking support. The team is expanding, with a need for more therapists to meet the growing demand. The heart of Healing Steps lies in its dedicated team of six and their eleven therapy horses, including Lindi's beloved Diesel. "They all have wonderful hearts; they are all there for the greater good," Lindi shares. The horses, with their innate sensitivity and ability to mirror human emotions, play a profound role in the therapeutic process. "Everyone seems to love him [Diesel]. He chooses his people and clients." This intuitive connection between humans and horses forms the basis of powerful emotional breakthroughs. To further connect with the Caldwell County community, Walk With Me Healing Steps will be hosting a "Lunch and Learn" event on Monday, June 23rd, from 11 am to 2 pm at The Caldwell Chamber.
