Is the Tide turning? 🌊 The tide is high but our tidal gauges are holding on! We’re excited to share a major step forward in LINZ’s 3D Coastal Mapping project! Our contractors Discovery Marine Limited and Southern Hydrography Ltd have successfully completed the calibration of 9 tide gauges across Aotearoa New Zealand. These gauges have been upgraded with Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology, which allows us to accurately measure real sea level change over time. Shout out to GNS Science / Earth Sciences New Zealand for their hard mahi on sites. This milestone is a crucial part of building a more resilient and informed coastal future. By combining precise elevation data with sea level monitoring, we’re helping communities, scientists, and decision-makers better understand and respond to coastal change.
