In 1996, when I graduated with an #engineering degree from National Institute of Technology Calicut, most of my batchmates and friends were gravitating toward IT jobs—over 100 of them joined TCS alone. A handful, however, chose to stick with core engineering roles. I wasn’t drawn to the software world and instead pursued an #MBA and part of the #CFA Program qualification, envisioning a future in investment banking. After a stint with a brand and management consulting company, I ventured into entrepreneurship, focusing on Corpplacements recruitment, placements, and executive search. Alongside this, my interest in #vedicastrology evolved into a parallel consulting practice that lasted two decades. In time, I founded Jothishi blending technology with Vedic #astrology to create products for a modern audience. Over four years, we built four products, enduring numerous challenges in training models with machine learning. It wasn’t an easy journey, but it was a rewarding one- today jothishi.com has over 10 million views and followers in multiple social medias) Now, at fifty, I’ve found myself adapting once again. The market demands pushed me to dive into #ArtificialIntelligence and #machinelearning. I completed multiple courses, including those by deeplearning.ai and Adjunct Stanford Professor Andrew Ng. With the emergence of #LargeLanguageModels (LLMs), I’m leveraging my domain expertise in astrology to create a suite of over a hundred #AIAgent products, built using RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) Architecture and multi-layered AI systems. Thanks and all credits to Praveen. Our goal is to address real customer needs, and by year-end, we aim to have a thousand well-engineered prompts ready to tackle a wide range of customer queries. Today, it’s possible for a non-IT professional like me to envision and develop AI-based products independently. Thanks to all the geniuses who have worked on building SLM/AGI/LLM's. Even more exciting is the potential of building mixed reality (AR/MR/VR) tools—voice-based and regionally adapted—to serve as an astrologer, guide, and friend in a deeply personalized way. Takeaways: Is IT essential across all domains? Maybe not always, but the lines are increasingly blurred. Ride your own wave, but the wave may eventually catch you. IT is irreplaceable for scaling. I’m part of several other startups where IT will likely play a much bigger role in the future. Small businesses can thrive and be profitable without a Venture Capitalist ( VC), with or without software, but scaling requires efficiency through systems and software. AI opens new doors: Building products with AI wasn’t even on the radar for an astrologer like me a few years ago. The journey has been long, and the road ahead is even longer. More to finetune and build. But I’m grateful for every step, challenge, and learning experience. Building AI-based products as an astrologer or entrepreneur wasn’t something I imagined years ago, but here I am, doing exactly that. Age is not a constraint if there is willingness to learn something new every day.
