This Women's History Month, Tahoe Forest Health System celebrates the trailblazing, inspirational women who have shaped the medical field and paved the way for future generations of healthcare professionals.
🔹Elizabeth Blackwell, M.D. – The first woman in the U.S. to receive a medical degree (1849).
🔹 Clara Barton – A pioneering nurse and founder of the American Red Cross, she transformed emergency and disaster relief efforts.
🔹Virginia Apgar, M.D. – Developer of the Apgar Score, a simple yet lifesaving test used to assess newborn health just moments after birth.
🔹Dr. Helen Taussig – A cardiologist whose work led to the development of life-saving heart surgery for infants with congenital defects.
🔹Rebecca Lee Crumpler, M.D. – The first Black woman in the U.S. to earn a medical degree (1864), she dedicated her life to caring for underserved communities.
