Lisa N. Abaid, M.D., MPH, FACOG, FACS—co-director of Gynecologic Oncology at Hoag and co-director for Hoag's Breast & Ovarian Cancer Prevention Program—sees her medical missions to Bolivia as more than an opportunity to give back. For her, they represent a chance to transform countless lives through medicine. In 2024, during her 12th mission trip, Dr. Abaid and her team helped 20 patients by performing 17 surgeries in just three days at Hospital San Pedro Claver in Sucre. The people of Sucre showed extraordinary hospitality, hosting both a special welcome ceremony and a cultural dinner with traditional Bolivian dances. To support ongoing healthcare in the community, Dr. Abaid and her team donated nearly 1,000 pounds of medical supplies. Through FUNDESSOL, she continues to make a lasting difference in the community by supporting local families and educating healthcare providers.
