Emeka has a thriving business in Abuja and in an effort to expand his business he brought his younger brother "Ekene" from the village to come and join him in Abuja. "Ekene" was a quick understudy, and Emeka decided to sponsor "Ekene" to China to be his business representative overseas. This was a wonderful plan as not only will "Ekene" be exposed to unlimited opportunities but also Emeka will have boots on ground when ever his products were to be manufactured and shipped to Nigeria.
"Ekene" was so excited for what the future held and couldn't wait for the visa interview day to arrive. As the date drew closer Emeka made sure that "Ekene" was fully prepared and transferred some money into "Ekenes'" account for transportation and accommodation. The night before the interview day Emeka advised that "Ekene" uses a reputable transport company since "Ekene" insisted on travelling by night which is very common amongst traders. "Ekene" assured his brother that'll he'll need his advice but proceeded to Jabi garage to enter a cheaper vehicle. This he did to save more money as it made more economic sense to him.
Emeka gets a call from his sister who lives in Anambra state that "Ekene" has been kidnapped by Fulani (this was ascertained when Emeka involved an Alhaji friend to help him negotiate the ransom fee) at the Obajana axis of Kogi state and the kidnappers were asking for 20million naira.
Emeka was at a loss of what to do because he didn't have that sum, plus the Police wasn't an option as the kidnappers warned that if they informed the police they'll know and "Ekene" will be killed. The negotiations and pleading lasted for days, and the "custodians of the highways" finally agreed to a ransom fee of 5m naira. The money was delivered to them the day after "Ekene" was killed. Emeka knew about his brothers death from another victim who had been released.
"Ekenes" body was never recovered to be given a decent funeral. Another young life cut short for daring to dream. This happened during the "Holy" month of Ramadan ☪️and Lent✝️ season.
As the scourge of kidnappings and killings ravage every nook and cranny of Nigeria let's all starve ourselves, read some "holy" passages from a borrowed religion in a foreign language, occasionally gather in some edifice built by motivational speakers⛪️🕌 and call on God to save Nigeria. Let's also pray that the padded contracts and bribe given falls in our favour. Let us bring our silent invocation 📿🙏🏿before the Lord of hosts and pray for "un merited" wealth and miracle alerts. 🏧🏦💵
While we sublet our brains to religion and have cast our faculties and "problems" to God thus exonerating government and our leaders, let us remember to say a kind prayer for the "Ekenes'" whilst casting and binding the spirit of kidnap, blood thirsty roads, and sudden death.
Remember these points;
1. Both the kidnappers and "Ekene" were supposed to be fasting.
2. Both the kidnappers and "Ekene" voted for a government
3. Both the kidnappers and "Ekene" are a reflection of the Nigerian populace (quest for a better life)
4. Society failed both "Ekene" and the kidnappers.
We're all victims in this crime scene called Nigeria and the fact that we don't know shows the amount of therapy needed. This is one untold story in the millions of stories happening in Nigeria.
In our desire for a better life, we have collectively destroyed the basic tenets that bind us as a nation, which are love for one another, respect for life, empathy, truth, honesty, accountability, etc. We have systematically placed money above all things, including life. Our National Anthem is the "get rich or die trying" album.
The chicken has come home to roost as evident in the incessant killings, kidnappings, fraud and looting, high rates of prostitution, drop out rates and blatant display of opulence in the midst of abject poverty.
While our National 🇳🇬mantra is " the end justifies the means," Let's be reminded the the real end is sorrow for all our unborn children!!
"Ekene" was my friends younger brother
I don't know who's more patriotic, the kidnappers, the people japa-ing, the terrorists, complacent citizens, Religious bandits or the Politicians.🤔🤔🤔
Rest in Peace "Ekene"....💔💔💔
