The existing architecture of the house, its surrounding and more importantly the client requirements need to be considered when renovating a house. This is a 20 years old single story house located in Kaduwela with a land size of 14 perches. The client has consulted a Architect Minda Gamanayake to renovate the house and the proposed design converts the old house into a modern looking apartment in a cost effective manner. All the front facing woodworks were replaced with Aluminium doors and windows, and they were styled with matching blinds. This house consists of a living room and three other rooms. One room was converted into a TV room. The TV room and the adjacent room share a common corridor in the new design. The main purpose of having a separate TV room is to remove the unnecessary complexity from the living room by making it a calm area. The master bedroom includes a courtyard and it has attached bathrooms. The room next to the TV room can be used as an office room or a bedroom as per the client’s needs. The new look and feel of the living room makes this house a more elegantly looking apartment. The living room itself includes a living, dining and pantry area. All the interior designs of the living room were changed. The walls were painted in White color. It was decorated with a modern sofa, dining table, wooden pantry cupboard, wall lamps, and other architectural ornaments. The grass was laid in the garden and newly planted temple trees add an extra beauty to the garden. All the temple trees include garden lights as well. The old gate was replaced with a White color Aluminium gate. The spaces among the Aluminium straps in the gate will make the garden lights transparent to outside.
