Pamela's journey into nursing began with her own experiences as a patient with Tetralogy of Fallot, a rare congenital heart defect. "I was in the hospital on and off my whole childhood, and I wanted to be a nurse like one of the nurses who took care of me. I admired their compassion and how they helped patients," she recalls. Pamela has been with Atrium Health for 18 years, starting as a licensed practical nurse at Atrium Health Union and later moving to the progressive care unit after becoming a registered nurse. Now, she is part of our virtual care team. "I find it very rewarding to help patients on the floor as a virtual nurse by taking the time to teach them about their diagnosis so they understand it," she explains. Atrium Health has supported Pamela's growth, helping her achieve her RN degree, Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Certified Acute Virtual Registered Nurse certification. She advises aspiring nurses to explore the many avenues within the profession and not get discouraged by a bad day.
