As a business owner, have you ever wanted to gift your employees a year-end bonus for an exact net dollar amount instead of an exact gross dollar amount? Often when this happens, you end up spending valuable time (and we all know time = money) trying to find the best gross figure to use that will get you as close as possible to the desired net amount, depending on each employee's tax deductions. Well guess what? There's a better way! If you're using QuickBooks Online for your payroll, there's an option within it to process a "gross-up" bonus (or rather, a bonus for an exact net amount). When you choose this option, the system will automatically calculate the correct taxes needed for the employee to give them the correct gross amount on their check for tax purposes, but allowing you to gift them the net amount you want them to take home. It's super easy and super convenient, and still keeps you tax compliant for your employees and reports it all correctly on their year-end W-2s.
