Many have viewed the scenic property which stands majestically in the Ozark Mountains or heard the horrific stories regarding Dr. Norman Baker and the hotel's former use as a hospital. The stories of hauntings that date back for decades are no secret either. On August 16th, 2025, Night Shift Paranormal will present a Psychic Development Workshop from, where else? America's Most Haunted Hotel. Join us from 4:00pm to 9:00pm in the beautiful glass Crescent Conservatory for what may prove to be a haunting evening. The 1886 Crescent Hotel was originally built as a resort for the social elite, though it quickly fell into disrepair. In 1908, the Crescent College and Conservatory for Young Women opened and operated until 1924. A junior college was opened in 1930 and ran until 1934, when the property became leased as a summer getaway. In 1937, Dr. Norman Baker came to town, buying the property for use as a hospital and health resort. Dr. Baker was many things, among them a radio personality and rich inventory. But, one thing he was not, was a doctor of any sort. Previously exiled from the state of Iowa for practicing medicine without a license, Dr. Baker moved to Arkansas with a very shred, yet horrific plan. Cancer patients came to Dr. Baker's new health resort to try his "magic cures", which were ineffective at best (such as natural spring water), and dangerous at worst. As expected, countless patients died while clinging to hope that Dr. Baker would somehow cure them, although that would never be the case. To make matters worse, Dr. Baker railed against the modern medicine of the time with claims of corruption and greed. In 1940, Dr. Baker was charged and convicted of mail fraud, which led to a prison sentence of four years. In 1946, John R. Constantine, Herbert E. Shutter, Herbert Byfield, and Dwight Nichols purchased the hotel. A fire on March 15, 1967 nearly burned the building to the ground. In 1997 Marty and Elise Roenigk bought the property, with Elise serving as owner today. The 1886 Crescent Hotel is not only known as "America's Most Haunted Hotel", but perhaps one of the most beautiful.
