Our innate wildness is dark and unfathomable. It’s where hope is as hollow as fear and you always confront yourself alone. Sitting alone in the wilderness, you realize that mystery and manifestation arise from the same source, darkness. We spend our whole lives blinding ourselves looking directly into the light. We overlook the true loneliness of meaning. There’s darkness within darkness at the gateway to understanding. Lost without hope in wild experience, tired beyond conscious thought, we glimpse the edge of reason at the boundaries of our imagination. It’s only when we close our eyes that we’re truly ourselves. Sensing yourself beyond sight, you breath alive, your heart beats in time with creation. We create the universe as much as the universe creates us; our past is as much a reality as the questions we ask about it. Alone in the darkness, your shadow disappears into everything as judgement and thought become irrelevant. Nothing can upset you anymore because everything was pointless to begin with. In wildness, there’s no guilt or concern as all evil resides within you, alongside the good. In the darkness, untamed and unaltered, you’re a phantom floating on the stars reflected in the water, a ghost lost in the universe above. All life, everything you, like a flying insect or a fish chasing moonlight, a leaf worshipping the Sun, we’re drawn to the light because we know the darkness so well. We create the light, we hold onto it as hard as we can, we miss when it’s gone, yet we’re relieved, each night, when we release it. Life in the light is a struggle, yet we slip into death and darkness with ease. You were always the feeling of everything with your eyes closed. You never existed as you. At the end, as it was in the beginning, in the absence of all light, you glimpsed the raw, unfiltered reality of existence forever out of control. Go sit alone in the wild, far away from anything, beyond control, feel the darkness wrap around you as the lions and hyenas lurk. Let go as the creeping sounds of wildness become your breath.
