My current business format was established in 2015, so I have been providing this as a professional service for over 10 years now, with many years previous to this (since the mid 1980's) on an "ad hoc" basis. There are literally 1,000's of horses on my books. That's a lot of different shapes, sizes, ages, normal & abnormal things that I've seen, experienced & followed through. I'm a qualified BHS stage 4 senior groom & currently coming to the end of a Level 5 certificate in Equine Reproductive Physiology, along with a level 5 qualification in Equine Therapeutics. I've attended multiple training days & regular webinars with Stallion AI & Twemlows to learn all I can about reproductive health as It's always been an area of special interest for me. I've plenty of proven & tested theory to back up my wealth of practical knowledge, & i'm always looking for further education & learning at every opportunity. I have recently started doing some research into CPL & the effects, if any, that this may have within the sheath environment. My background before working full time with horses was 20 years in the NHS as a Registered healthcare professional, so things like infection control are second nature to me. I use: > Water based, obstetric veterinary lubricant > Single use examination gloves (changed before & during the procedure) > Single use clean flannel for drying / wiping any debris. > Single use soft baby sponge to wash inside & around the prepuce (sheath) > A clean bucket of warm water which is changed & cleaned between every single horse > I have a hot box in my van, so I'm able to bring my own clean hot water. > My buckets, box & boots are all treated with Equine Bio Genie products at every yard. > Every client receives a written report afterwards, detailing what was done, my findings, any recommendations, and copies of any photos or diagrams I may have taken (if applicable) > Free download & use of the Equigate App for all my hygiene clients, allowing you to instantly access your horses hygiene documents, receipts & reminders. As well as access to some big brand discount offers. I'm always happy to either quietly get on with the job on my own, or discuss in however much detail you want, what I'm doing & why. I can, if the horse is obliging, show you where the beans form. Not everyone wants to know though, which is absolutely fine. Not only does the area get a thorough clean. I also check for any lumps, growths & skin changes. Spotting these at the very earliest opportunity, means that their development can be monitored effectively & prompt veterinary intervention can be made if the changes are concerning or happening too fast. It's not a part of the body that owners can, or do look at very often, so sometimes the first an owner knows about a growth is when it's become a significant size or it's causing functional problems, which sadly can be too late. The majority of my work comes through personal recommendations, and I also get work directly from our local vets. For exceptionally tricky horses, I work alongside vets when the horse requires sedation. I can co-ordinate with other treatments such as a dental, whilst I sheath / hygiene clean. All my hygiene cleans cost just £30 per horse, with a discount for groups of 5 or more, and I have a free travel zone of 10 miles radius of my base in Stockport. Mileage charges apply over 10 miles & will be quoted at the time of enquiry. There is NO DEPOSIT to pay & NO HIDDEN CHARGES I am out & about daily in most parts of Greater Manchester, Cheshire, the High Peak, Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Lancashire & the surrounding areas. Unlike some hygienists, I limit my geographical area so I'm able to get to know my clients, their horses & their vet practices really well. This helps build a good strong & trusting working relationship, and I believe improves continuity of care. I can get to any of my clients, if needed, within just a few days. There's no waiting for weeks until I'm in your postcode. I always offer quality over quantity. And most importantly, I will always turn up! The procedure takes on average 20 minutes & needs no special preparation beforehand. Plus, the horse is free to continue it's day immediately afterwards. It is painless & in most cases causes no, or very little discomfort. Some actively enjoy it! The majority of horses only need a hygiene clean once a year, although some may need 9 or even 6 monthly visits. Some unscrupulous cleaners are claiming every horse needs a 6 monthly clean. From my many years experience, this isn't true for the majority of horses. Prevention is always better than cure. In the same way we provide regular hoof care or preventative dental exams; intimate hygiene care should be part of your horses regular health care package. I am fully insured for all the services I provide, including specifically sheath & mare intimate hygiene cleaning. Care, Custody & Control of all the horses i work with, as well as Public Liability insurance. Always ask to see insurance documents if you have any doubts! I'm always very happy to show mine. I won't make a diagnosis, that's a vets job. I won't tell you false information such as beans grow in the sheath, wee hole, semen hole or other such nonsense. Or that squelchy noise means your horse needs cleaning - this is not true! And I don't claim that cleaning a sheath will transform your horses personality. But it can make a really big difference to his comfort, health & well being. It has been known to stop bucking, napping, tail rubbing, stamping, kicking & irritability in numerous cases, as well as improve hind end engagement & improved way of going.
