We are proud to share our home rescue, relocation and repurposing project with the shishalh Nation (Sunshine Coast) has been awarded recognition by the 2025 Venice Biennale Architettura (Fondazione La Biennale di Venezia) for "circularity in the built environment." ♻️ This is a high-profile international recognition of a made-in-BC sustainable, and cost-effective, housing solution for non-urban communities in need. From May 5 - 10 representatives from the shishalh Nation, Renewal Development and Wesgroup Properties will be in Venice, Italy to participate in the opening of the exhibition. We were invited by the L'Institut français. Over 600,00 guests from around the world will learn about this innovative project throughout the Venice Biennale which runs May 10 - November 23. Every year 2,700 single family homes are demolished across Metro Vancouver to make space for higher density development. We estimate 600 of these homes are in very good condition. Instead of allowing these homes to be senselessly torn down Renewal Development physically lifts, relocates and repurposes the high value homes to coastal communities in need. We work with the receiving community to lightly modernize the homes, especially for energy efficiency. Unlike other movers, Renewal general contracts the entire process cradle to cradle. This optimizes and streamlines the process enabling greater scaling. The shishalh Nation, and Wesgroup, demonstrated incredible collaboration and leadership to help realize a creative affordable housing project at this scale.
