"I've got this. I'm going to do everything exactly as it's laid out. This is going to be the best thing ever. I need a change like yesterday. Legit like all of these changes are perfect and I hate where I am right now." In my head I thought, "Uh oh. We've got a passion ticking time bomb." 💣 I said back, "I'm so excited you're excited. But this is going to be hard. As tough as it is to take a step back and pause right now...as passionate as you are about getting started with all the changes, we've got to slow down before we speed up." I knew that this passion that was motivating her right now could blow up in her face if we weren't conscious of creating a clear plan and purpose... --- Passion... We celebrate being passionate about something. We celebrate that excitement. And it's often that strong emotion that makes us motivated to work toward something new, which is a good thing. It's EXCITEMENT in its purest form. But passion only takes us so far. And has a huge DOWNSIDE we too often ignore... BURNOUT. Passion most often leads to us doing more, working harder and harder, only to be frustrated when results aren't happening. It's an explosive emotion. It burns hot. But that's also what makes it flame out, especially when the habit changes and sacrifices start to outweigh the benefits we see building. Passion doesn't drive us forward for long. It often leads to us making sacrifices we can't maintain and trying to out work time. Instead we need to pause in our passion, in our excitement, and truly lay out a clear plan. We need to use our passion to prepare, plan and create that PROCESS. That process that will help us reach our goals. And in that planning, preparation and process, passion will shift to PURPOSE. We will go from thinking about all of the things we want to all of the actions we need to take to get there. We create an actual game plan to get there as we aren't just caught up in the excitement of our end goal but truly conscious of the reality of what it takes to get there. Because passion will fizzle. There will be things you have to do that you won't like. It is only when you know the PURPOSE that you will continue to push through. So if this week you were super excited, super motivated, super PASSIONATE about your goal, pause in your desire to do EVERYTHING all at once. Slow down to ultimately speed up. Lay out a game plan. Prepare for the ups and downs to come. Create that process and outline the habit changes you'll need, the sacrifices you'll be willing to make, in order to truly reach your goals. Understand the PURPOSE behind what you're driven to achieve and all that comes with building that result.
