Mark your calendars now! The eighth grade class cordially invites you to the 20th annual Willard Revolutionary War Reenactment and Encampment at Willard Middle School. Students will reenact famous events and battle scenes from the era, like the Lexington and Concord, Bunker Hill, Valley Forge, and Yorktown. Wearing period clothing, students will be learning crafts and activities such as tin punching, paper making, land surveying, military drilling, hearth kettle cooking, food preservation, knitting, pottery, and more. General George Washington may even make an appearance. After completing primary source research and first person character sketch on a Revolutionary War soldier who moved to the Firelands of Ohio, some students will earn the opportunity to attend a military ball. The evening event will be completed with live vocal and instrumental music. These individuals will also spend the night in the encampment. Saturday morning students will portray life in the encampment for the community. The Revolutionary War Reenactment and Encampment benefits the students by participating in authentic representations of the home and daily life of minutemen and colonial citizens. The community is invited to journey back in time between 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM on Friday and between 8AM and 3PM on Saturday. We hope you will join us for this educational and entertaining evening. For more information find us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/WillardRevWar/ . Interested in volunteering? Interested in being a vendor or demonstrator? Message us for details!

Our encampment returns in 2025! This year we are pleased to announce a partnership with the City of Sanford and the Sanford Museum: our camp will be located at the Sanford Museum in Fort Mellon Park, on the site of the original battle! This encampment is free and open to the public. On Friday, February 7th we will have reenactors demonstrating daily life and the overarching social and political pressures which drove the Indian Removal Acts here in Florida, resulting in the longest and most expensive “Indian War” in US history.
