The Mohmand Dam, Pakistan's highest concrete-face-rock-fill dam (CFRD) and the world's 5th tallest, is set to be completed by 2026-27.
Located on the River Swat in KP’s Mohmand District, the multipurpose dam will store 1.29 MAF of water, irrigate 18,237 acres of new land, supplement existing irrigation, and generate 800 MW of clean energy, providing annual benefits of Rs51.6 billion. It will also supply 300 million gallons of drinking water daily to Peshawar.
During his visit, Chairman WAPDA Engr Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (Retd) reviewed construction at key sites, including the main dam, diversion tunnels, spillway, and powerhouse. A progress review meeting was held with teams to ensure the project remains on track for timely completion.
The dam will play a critical role in flood control, agriculture, and clean energy generation. Current work includes excavation, concrete works, and tunnel development, with all efforts geared toward meeting deadlines and maximizing project benefits.
