Art Sanctuary is happy to welcome Marianne Barbier this year ( www.the-enchanted-garden.info/MarianneBarbier ). She exposes at 'The Enchanted Garden' and at 'Au Moulin des Délices', both in Jodoigne. -> Materials and techniques: Ceramic Funny birds decorated with unique colour patterns and lots of imagination. Marianne Barbier: She devotes her time and talent to creating “funny little birds” in ceramic. She shapes them all by hand and colours them according to her inspiration of the moment ... which often makes them funny. Des drôles d’oiseaux (Funny birds): Marianne Barbier's birds are artistic renditions of bird species that exist in Belgium: cranes, pigeons, owls, robins, ... But they are not faithful reproductions. She lets her imagination reinvent them. Many of her birds - she has bred more than 1,000 of them - have bold, vivid colours and eye-catching patterns, while others adopt softer tones, blending perfectly into the natural setting of a garden. This diversity reflects the richness of nature and the diversity of species that inhabit our gardens. Technique: Each bird is the result of a meticulous process. Marianne Barbier begins by modelling the clay with her fingers, taking care to capture the essence of each bird. She then fires the clay at a low temperature to solidify the shape. The next step is to paint the birds with coloured glazes before a second high-temperature firing, which fixes the colours and gives the ceramic its shiny appearance. Low-temperature firing of her creations prevents the colours from 'melting' but makes the birds more fragile than when fired at high temperature. That's why the “funny birds” can't spend the winter in the garden. Representative works will be displayed in the store with red dots.🙏🙏🙏 ———— Mr. Kang Young-jun, residing in Milyang, Gyeongnam, South Korea, is dedicated to ceramic creation and walks alongside nature. He established the Danchang Kiln, with the first kiln completed in March 2005, followed by the construction of a second kiln after twenty years. This exhibition in Beijing features new works from Mr. Kang's latest kiln, incorporating the technique of inlaying celadon into the form of Korean Buncheong. Mr. Kang employs traditional Korean techniques to construct his kiln, known as the Mangdaengi kiln (망댕이 가마). This pine wood-fired kiln produces swirling ashes and flowing flames, resulting in ceramics that have a more natural appearance.The firing temperature reaches 1280-1300 degrees Celsius. The clay is sourced from the yellow soil of Milyang, which is rich in iron elements, imparting a unique style and flavor to the tea brewed in the ceramics. Additionally, the kaolin present in Milyang's yellow soil enhances its suitability for high-temperature firing and contributes to the hardness of the final products. The processes involved in building the kiln and firing are quite arduous. His work focuses on the innovation and reinterpretation of Korean Buncheong. Mr. Kang loves the ultimate harmony in the asymmetry and imperfection of the North Korean moon jar, as well as the vigorous lines and bold simplifications in ancient ceramics. As you stand before a ceramic work, have you ever taken your sightline further from a glance but to observe, to see through the fabric of care and delve into the determination that each ceramicist pours into a piece of work? In line with our mission to gather Hong Kong ceramic artists and bring local ceramic creations to our community, we have once again open-called fifty local ceramicists/ ceramic studios. At the same time, we are fortunate to have invited ceramic artists from Japan, Taiwan and Thailand, each from different regions, backgrounds, and cultures, to participate. As we explore creative landscapes beyond our local context through works that carry their life experiences, we observe and mutually learn from our diversity. We firmly believe that connecting people worldwide through ceramics and pursuing things that spark passions is particularly meaningful.
