A few years ago my wife hung this picture above the toilet in our bathroom as a surprise. When I first saw it I laughed out loud…then as I thought about it I became concerned that it may be offensive to others. I never really shared that with her because it was a gift and she liked it and I was only feeling slightly conflicted by its presence…then it hit me. I need to let that shit go! Why waste time on something so trivial? The sign completely sends a message to dump out your waste. So why waste time wondering what others think about your actions or decisions? There’s a Zen koan about A student of the way who asked his teacher Yunmen, “What is Buddha?” Yunmen replied, “Dried shitstick.” So thank you to my wife and best friend for the daily reminder and today let’s not take ourselves so seriously 🙂
