Enjoy an Extra 10% on Top of the Tax Free Holiday Ohio’s sales tax holiday is from 12:00 a.m. Friday, August 1 until 11:59 p.m. Thursday, August 14. Can multiple qualifying items be purchased in a single tax-exempt transaction? For example, the purchase of two shirts, two pair of pants, a pair of shoes and a jacket (each item costing $100, total purchase $600) would be tax exempt. There is no limit on the amount of the total purchase. The qualification is determined item by item. Does the $500 exemption apply to the first $500 of an item? In other words, if the selling price of an item is $600, is the first $500 exempt from sales tax? No. The exemption applies to items selling for $500 or less. If an item sells for more than $500, tax is due on the entire selling price. What if the retailer sells a pair of skis for $525, can the retailer split the pair of skies to fall below the threshold? No. A retailer may not split items that are normally sold together in order to fall under the sales price threshold. We are now a week out from a 2-week sale sponsored by the state of Ohio. The sale is going to run from 8/1-8/14, During this 2-week period there will be no sales tax on items $500 and under thanks to the sale tax holiday offered by the state, we will also be offering every customer an additional 10% off to make this an irresistible combination of savings. During this 2 week period we will be offering the additional 10% on every item, not just items under 500. This promotion can not be combined with any other discounts.
