It's Summerific Week, but what's a Summerific hibiscus? One of the most iconic hardy perennials you can grow, bearing massive dinnerplate-sized blooms with ruffled petals in vibrant shades of pink, red, lavender and white. You might also know it by the common name of rose mallow. Growing an impressive inch-per-day, they expand to the size of a shrub every summer and then die completely back to the ground for the winter, only to emerge again bigger and better the following year in late spring. All that's needed is a good supply of sun and water to achieve success with Summerific hibiscus in zones 4-9. That's right - this amazing perennial can grow beautifully from Madison to Houston! What makes Summerific hibiscus different than others? Decades of advanced breeding work by our perennial partner @waltersgardens in West Michigan which has resulted in plants that have: 🌺 Flower buds all up and down the stems, so you'll have flowers blooming all over the plant, not just at the top. 🌺 High bud counts so plants stay in bloom for months rather than weeks. 🌺 The most unique blend of flower and foliage colors, many not seen in any other perennial hibiscus. 🌺 Thick, overlapping, ruffled petals that help the flowers hold up better in summer storms. 🌺 Near-black foliage on some varieties. 🌺 Dense, shrubby habits including 'Crush' varieties that have a more upright form than the rest which are more gumdrop-shaped. 🛒 Late summer is the best time to find Summerific hibiscus in stock at your local garden centers. If you only shop in spring, you'll miss them, so it's time to make another trip this week.
