📢 Information regarding the Tazewell County Storm Relief Grant is available below. This grant is intended for individuals who experienced major damage as a result of Hurricane Helene and/or Winter Storm Jett. Please note that administrative costs are paid to all counties separate from funds for individuals.
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE
Assistance may be available for victims of Hurricane Helene and Winter Storm Jett. Tazewell County is administering a State relief program designed to provide assistance to residents of the County who owned property damaged by Hurricane Helene in September 2024 and/or Winter Storm Jett (The February 2025 flooding event).
This program provides financial assistance for property owners whose structures are found to have suffered major damage from either Hurricane Helene or Winter Storm Jett. If you owned property and a residential structure on that property was damaged by these storms you may qualify for assistance. Please note - you will only qualify if the residential structure is a “total loss” or if it suffered “major damage,” defined as:
“Total loss” means real property that has been destroyed, such that there is a total loss of the structure, the structure is not economically feasible to repair, or there is a complete failure to major structural components, such as a collapse of the basement, wall, or roof.
“Major damage” means real property that has substantial failure to its structural elements, such as walls, floor, or foundation, or that has sustained damage that will take more than 30 days to repair.
Because a structure on your property was flooded or damaged, does not necessarily mean your property is a “total loss” or that it suffered “major damage” or that you will receive any assistance.
If you believe a residential structure on your property is a total loss or suffered major damage, due to one of these storm events or both, and you want to apply for compensation you must:
(1) Complete an application and deliver it to the County Administration Building at 197 Main Street, Tazewell, Virginia, between 8AM and 4:30PM weekdays. Applications are available on line at
tazewellcountyva.org/storm-relief

(2) Applications must include all information and copies of documents required on the Application Checklist which may also be found at
tazewellcountyva.org/storm-relief
.
(3) Applications must be signed by the property owner(s) in the presence of a Notary Public who must witness the signature.
