🌞 July is UV Safety Month! Protect Your Skin with These Tips from Tiffany Engelken, APRN-C 🌞
Summer is here, and while we all love basking in the sun, it's crucial to protect our skin from harmful UV rays. Here are some essential tips to stay safe:
1. Use Broad-Spectrum Sunscreen: Apply sunscreen with SPF 30-50 for extended outdoor activities. Reapply every two hours and after swimming or sweating.
2. Wear Protective Clothing: Choose long sleeves, pants, and wide-brimmed hats. Look for clothes with UPF ratings for extra protection.
3. Shield Your Eyes: UV rays can harm your eyes, so wear sunglasses that block 99-100% of UV rays.
4. Seek Shade: Avoid direct sunlight between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Use umbrellas, trees, or other shelters when outdoors.
5. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated in the heat.
6. Regular Skin Checks: Monitor your skin for any new or changing moles or spots. Use the ABCDE rule (Asymmetry, Border, Color, Diameter, Evolving) and visit a dermatologist for regular exams.
